Instagram adds affiliate and shop features for creators
During Instagram and Facebook’s first ever Creator Week, the social media giant announced that in coming months Instagram will start testing a native affiliate tool. This will allow creators to recommend products available on checkpoint, share this with their followers and earn commission from the sales that their content drives. The words “eligible for commission” will appear beneath the creators’ usernames for transparency.
In time as Instagram partners with brands, this will become an opportunity for brands when running influencer campaigns.

Champion Petfoods increasing brand awareness through influencer partnerships
The pet food brand has attributed more than 25 million impressions to influencer partnerships on Instagram. Over the last year Champion Petfoods partnered with existing customers and users to educate their audiences on the importance of pet nutrition and to promote two of its brands.
With more and more consumers migrating to online shopping, many purchasing decisions are influenced by influencers that they follow on social media. A 2019 study found that eight out of ten consumers purchased something after it was recommended by an influencer.

Social media has come a long way since the days of selfies, cute pictures and joking memes. Although those are still prominent, social media has evolved to include expert influencers who educate and organise. Amongst the new breed of influencers on the rise are the “greenfluencers”. Aimed at TikTok audiences, greenfluencers are harnessing the power of social media to create global change.
